1. on the dvd player i want to get. i am torn between 2 models the pioneer elite dv-59 avi and the pioneer elite dv-58 av. which is better? I know that is kind of a broad question so i will let you know what i am looking for. I am looking for whichever one delivers better multi-channel sound performance for
dvd movies. i know the 58 is newer but the 59 seemed to have some high end hardware in it that seemed to rival the newer stuff.

2. Which of the 2 dvd players is more receptive to "mods" or which one would end up better after modding. again i do not mean in general but for multi-channel sound performance.

3. which of the 2 is overall better?

It's a tough call. I own a 59avi and it is a very good player. I bought it for it's i-link capabilities. Video performance is also first rate, but it up-converts to 1080i. The 58-av converts to 1080P. As for the audio, as others in your other thread mentioned, if you connect via optical or coaxial it really shouldn't make much difference as the receiver will do the processing. The audio chips in the players are only used when the player is connected via 6/8 channel analog outs. For your aplication, between the two I'd opt for the 58-av but if great sound is what you're after a BluRay player would be better.

What is your objective for asking the same question in multiple threads? Do you want honest feedback, or are you going to ask the same thing until you hear the answer you want to hear? Hopefully by now you are learning that there is a basic fault to the main question you are asking.

my objective was following a suggestion that someone made to me. it was suggested that these particular questions were not basic ones and to put them elsewhere, so i did.

i do plan on going blu-ray but not at the moment.

on the sound, i plan on using the hdmi for video and sound output for the moment. compared to the pioneer elite vsx-91 txh, which audio processor set would be better; the reciever's using the hdmi or the dvd player's using the multi-channel out(let's assume we will be using the dv-58 av)?

I would use an hdmi connection because using the 5.1 analog inputs in the receiver bypasses the MCACC, bass and treble controls and possibly other things I can't think of at the moment. The main volume control and individual speaker volume levels are usually the only adjustments allowed thru the 6/8 channel analog inputs. The 5.1 analogs are best when used for SACD/DVD-A and DD TruHD and DTS-MA when your receiver and/or dvd player is un-able to pass these formats via hdmi (or i-link).
