I'm just trying to find a good unit between the amount posted above. Its going to be used on a more than likely 27 flat screen sony or toshiba, the tv I get may or may not be hdtv compatible. I was looking at a single disc dvd player with progressive scan. Are there any other options in this price range? I'm mainly looking for good picture and sound quality, sound wise, I'm running through a current Onkyo Tsdx575, I'm using my ps2 as my current dvd player. Any of your help is greatly appreciated!!

    Thanks

You might try to obtain a recently discontinued Denon 1600. I did the research and ordered one from Crutchfield for around $300 - so far my impressions over the last two weeks have been very favorable.

Just my two cents. Good luck.

Yeah at the $300 level the Denon DVD-1600 is the best choice! It beats many $1000+ players and of course is much superior to the cheaper players. Hurry it may disappear very soon though.

www.ecost.com has the Denon 1600 for $250 refurbished and the Denon 900 for $99 refurbished. They had some refurbished 910s for $88 but the sold out very quickly, but I beleive they are supposed to be receiving some more.

ok guys I found a couple 1600's for around $300, but have a couple questions. What makes this one so much better than the 910? Also I found a 900 for around $259. Whats the difference between the 910 and 900? Thanks for the replys!

The DVD-900 is terrible compared to the 1600. The 900 has terrible frequency response resulting in a very soft image plus it has chroma bugs. The DVD-910 is better than the 900 but it too has a softer image and a color flicker issue due to CSS off compared to the 1600. The 1600 is still superior to all of the others. For a $50 difference the 1600 is a much better buy! The 1600 also has DVD-audio which the 900 and 910 both lack. If you want a model like the Denon 1200 for $250, Tweeter stores carry the Mitsubishi DD-8040 which is the same basic design as the DVD-1200 including DVD-audio. But the Denon 1600 is still the top quality of all of these.

The truth is I don't know what to look for! I was wanting a dvd player that had great picture and sound for around that price range. I don't really listen to music at home as I'm at school the majority of the day. So the 1600 doesn't have a coaxial digital output? I'm also assuming Onkyo doesn't make a good dvd player in this price range either.
