Top Three DVD's to own:

1: BLADE (Platinum Series) even without a DTS audio track, amazing audio/video with great extras.

2: SEVEN (Platinum Series 2-disk set) on top of excellant audio/video, the tech stuff on disk 2 was great also.

3: HALLOWEEN (the THX restored version) because the transfer NEVER ceases to amaze me for such a low budget film, and it's a personal fav.

Thanks for asking our opinions!

3) Almost Famous-Bootleg: Nice sound, picture, flawless movie all around.

2) Brazil-Criterion: Too bad it's not anamorphic, but otherwise an amazing package (3disks).

1) Rushmore-Criterion: two words...Max Fischer!

I guess the best way to describe this would be "if somebody were to break into my house and steal my entire DVD collection except for three titles, which ones couldn't I live without?"
1. Star Wars Phantom Menace Episode 1 The reference disk both for the pod race and light sabre duels.
2. Toy Story Box Set Both disks 1 and 2 are great. Can watch these over and over.
3. Mission Impossible 2 Another great workout both for sound and picture for your system.
These are my top three, but this might change once I do my next wave of purchases which will include Terminator Special Edition, JFK Directors cut and Die Hard 5 Star collection.:D

The Matrix - great all around "golly, gee whiz look at what my system can do"
Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs - best Disney disc ever
Star Trek - The Motion Picture - The Director's Cut - shows what special edition director's cut is all about. This movie is better than the theatrical cut, in my opinion.

1. The Matrix - Quality of the movie, quality of the sound.

2. Fight Club - Quality of the movie, quality of the sound.

3. Goodfellas - Quality of the movie.

I don't care about extras. The movies are everything.

1. Fifth Element (Superbit) - The best example of what a DVD should look like.

2. Eagles Hell Freezes over Concert on DVD - The best example of what a DVD should sound like assuming you have a nice HT setup to compliment your new DVD player.

3. Shrek - Excellent extras and it's a great movie to boot. Sounds fantastic and looks beautiful on any decent television.

Thanks,

Jeff

the first 3 dvds?

# 1: Get your favourite movie - Whatever it is.

For me it was Lawrence of Arabia. I have used

it as demo material for a variety a audiences from

relatives to superiors and elected officials at work.

#2: Get the movie that you've alway wanted to OWN.

Emphasis on OWN not rent. For me this was Spartacus:

Criterion Collection.

#3: Get a movie you always watch when it is shown on TV.

For me this was The Shawshank Redemption - Now I can

see it in widescreen with no cuts to fit TBS timeslots.

Everyone has different films they love for different reasons. DVD is great at showing widescreen movies with great sound and lots of additional features that a movie fan might never get to see.

1- A Bug's Life: Collector's Edition -- the collector's edition is 16x9 enhanced where the standard release is not.

2- Actually two titles, but as a set a must have:

The Ultimate Toy Box: Toy Story 1 & 2

3- Seven: Platinum Edition. Remixed and remastered. DTS, DD, and other audio comparison features.

Having remembered buying my first DVD player there are the following movies I would recommend.

Saving Private Ryan - the clarity it shows versus videow and the sound if you really want to wow your friends.

Shrek - Not only a great movie, the sound and animation really show up on DVD.

Heat - Shows the impressive differences between different shades of dark colors and the sound rivets you off your seat.

1. The Matrix: Superb sound and stunning visuals.

2. Moulin Rouge: Rich color, the best I've seen and a great soundtrack.

3. Sting/All This Time: For you music lovers, this is a must have. As close to being there visually and musically as you could possibly get.
