This happens to me a few times a week. Halfway through a post, I'll realize I'm restating something I, or somebody else, has already said in that thread. Even three paragraphs into a new post, I'll just realize I am adding nothing new to the discussion. My natural inclination is to post it anyway, as it's free, but I usually don't. I just hit "Back" and that's that. Does this happen to anyone else? Or are most members savvy enough to not start a post they haven't thought through [IMG]

    Take care,
    Chuck

Chuck, sometimes I'll start typing something and realize that I was just repeating what the original poster stated.....DAMN, I did it again!

p.s. Why do I feel like this is going to be another Silica-type thread. [IMG]

    Yup*

*I have nothing else to add to the thread about having nothing to say, other than I hold off on posts all the time. Except this one, because you asked.

(edited once to correct a spelling mistake that made an ass out of myself in a thread about having nothing to say. I give up!)

Russell, I noticed that typo and was cracking up. [IMG] Not to be an ass myself, but you still have "off" spelled as "of".

I do this fairly often, either because I realize my joke is more stupid than usual or I just don't want to deal with the possible backlash of my comment. I'm generally a thinking before speaking type anyway.

I do this all the time too. Humor does not translate in text forums well at all, and if I had one critism of the HTF, is that some members are really thin skinned.

On a side note, am I the only one posting fast and furious at work, avoiding all spell checking due to time? Explains most of my posts* (poor spelling, sloppy fat fingered typing, etc)

*That's my excuse, and I'm sticking to it![IMG]

Mainly because (without inflections) posts can be read in different ways.

I'm ALWAYS getting into trouble with some of my IM'd to friends. They always read them wrong.

    For instance:

I was asking a friend what she did over the weekend. She said that she drank a lot and got drunk (which she hardly ever does). So I said "What else is new?", meaning "So what else did you do that is new?", but she read it sarcastically as "you got drunk? what else is new [IMG]" and got pissed at me. [IMG]

Interesting observation Christ. I'm surprised no one has mentioned it before.

On another note, do you ever find that you post an opinion on something, then someone posts the same opinion after you and all of a sudden everyone starts commenting on the other person's post like yours didn't even exist?

    Drives me crazy...

Not only that Brett, but I also hate it when someone quotes you and they acknowledge the wrong person. [IMG]

Or the flipside, where you do a post and then the thread just dies. I feel like I've killed more threads than contributed.

This has happened enough times that I've wondered if I'm on everyone's ignore list. [IMG]
