Dumb Sonic question (1 Viewer)

Does anyone know when and why Dr. Robotnik's name was changed to Dr. Eggman? The last STH game I actually got to the end of was Sonic 2 and he was Robotnik in that, but upon playing Sonic Adventure 2 Battle, I found his name was changed.

It's a translation thing - when Sonic first reached the West, they changed the name of the baddie. With the new games, they've gone back to using hte same name across all the territories.

The Robotnik/Eggman discrepancy reminds me of a the diverging mythologies of the Mega Man series... does anyone remember Mega Man before it went all 'Pokemon' on us? It's probably not as confusing as I'm making it out to be, but what happened to the good ole days of Rock Man?

In the Sonic Adventure series, the name 'Eggman' is used as a derogitory term for the credibility-seeking Robotnik. "Stop calling me Eggman!" etc..
