I have both the s-video and the component routed directly to my projector from the JVC DVD player. I have the composite video hooked from my projector to the receiver so I decided to hook up my VCR so I could watch my widescreen copy of Star Wars (VHS) on the big screen.

For the life of me, I could not get the onscreen menu to turn off. How do you turn off the menu so you can watch the movie when using the receiver as a video switcher?

At the lower part of your remote, there's a somwhat hidden slider panel. Under that panel is the on-screen display control button which sets the three on-screen options.
