Wolf putting 'Dragnet' back on ABC
ABC is about to put some famed L.A. detectives back on the case. The network has ordered 13 episodes of "Dragnet," a new one-hour version of Jack Webb's classic cop show, from writer-producer Dick Wolf ("Law & Order") for midseason 2002-03. Universal Television will produce. Wolf is writing the script for the pilot, which will be shot in Los Angeles and so far doesn't have any cast attached. ABC will make the official announcement next week when it presents its fall schedule to advertisers. " 'Dragnet' is the single greatest cop-show franchise in television history," Wolf said in an interview. "It provided the blueprint on which everything (in the genre) has been built." TV's original police procedural "Dragnet," which started on radio in 1949, aired in half-hour episodes on NBC from 1952-59 and again from 1967-70. (Scott Collins)
