between dts and dd is there any difference when it comes to the amount of data sent to the rear speakers?

Not exactly, but each is mastered differently and there may be slight variances, depending on the movie, as well as overall volume.

Combining the responses, there is no difference, so long as those doing the transfer follow the intent of the mix in the soundtrack.

Many times the overall DTS mix is a few dB higher than DD, but the amount sent to each speaker in both should be the same.
