DTS Saving Private Ryan graphic problems (1 Viewer)

Hi,

I bought the DTS version of Private Ryan and near the end of the opening battle, after they hit the first bunker with the flame thrower, I noticed so bizarre graphic details.

In the back ground of a few scenes there's some fires burning and the flames light "streaks" up vertically, CLEARLY an unwanted effect, very digital-looking.

Has anyone else noticed this and addressed it?

thanks,

Antoine

It's intentional.

It duplicates a defect in some cameras used to film WWII battles that blurred some of the color due to a faulty shutter.

very digital-looking.
Actually this effect (achieved with a variety of "manual" techniques from adjusting shutters to actually banging up a rather expensive camera to exposing the undeveloped film to outside light) is about as UN-digital as you can get.

Oh no, not again!!!! :)
Welcome, Antoine.
IMHO, one of the most striking examples of cinematography ever.
Janusz Kaminski won the Oscar for his fine work.

Just another way that Speilberg was trying to pass off the popcorn action of SPR as something more important and symbolic.

Couldn't disagree more. Save for one awkward scene between Hanks and Sizemore, a great film. One of Speilberg's better efforts.
