DTS Play-Fi Headphones App with AV Sync

The new DTS Play-Fi Headphones app - just announced by Xperi Corporation - is now available on iOS and will be coming to Android devices in early July, as a companion app to certain DTS Play-Fi audio products. The free app will enable users to stream content over Wi-Fi that is playing on a DTS Play-Fi-supported product to a pair of headphones connected to a phone or tablet for a 'private listening experience.' With DTS Play-Fi’s A/V synchronization technology, audio will stay in line with video content being played on the TV. This capitalizes on the Wi-Fi range within a home, and should eliminate in-room limitations of Bluetooth solutions.

The DTS Play-Fi Headphones app will stream audio from compatible inputs (HDMI, optical, etc.) on compatible products listed below. Up to four listeners will be able to join an audio streaming session for a private listening party without disturbing others around them. When used in conjunction with DTS Play-Fi’s whole-home TV audio streaming feature, the app allows a user to join an ongoing TV audio multiroom session and enjoy it at a different volume for themselves, while still being part of the group, according to the company.

“We are excited to announce the new DTS Play-Fi Headphones app, bringing a private listening experience to the whole-home audio ecosystem,” said Dannie Lau, general manager, DTS Play-Fi, at Xperi. “Whether it’s enjoying shared content at a higher volume, or multiple users enjoying the same content through individual headphones so they won’t disturb others, the DTS Play-Fi Headphones app delivers high quality audio and performance over Wi-Fi.”

The DTS Play-Fi Headphones app can stream audio from the following DTS Play-Fi-enabled products, with more launching throughout the year:
  • Definitive Technology W Studio Micro sound bar
  • Klipsch Gate receiver, PowerGate amplifier, RSB-8 sound bar, RSB-14 sound bar, RW-1 speaker, “The Capitol Three” speaker, and “The Three” speaker
  • McIntosh MB50 streaming audio player
  • Onkyo Smart Speaker G3
  • Paradigm PW LINK pre-amplifier
  • Phorus PS10 speaker
  • Pioneer Elite Smart Speaker F4
  • Polk Omni S6 speaker and SB1+ sound bar

DTS Play-Fi technology promises lossless multi-room wireless audio streaming on supported products from music services including Amazon Music, Deezer, iHeartRadio, Juke, KKBox, Napster, Pandora, Qobuz, QQ Music, SiriusXM, Spotify and TIDAL, Internet radio stations, and personal music libraries. In addition, DTS Play-Fi technology features advance streaming functionality including wireless surround sound, stereo pairing, music station presets, and audio/video synchronization.

The DTS Play-Fi ecosystem includes 200 interoperable speakers, sound bars, set-top boxes, and AV receivers from companies such as Anthem, Arcam, Definitive Technology, Integra, Onkyo, Pioneer, Rotel and SVS, among others.
