Since there is a lot of talk about non region 1 dts-dvd's I thought I would post some titles that are released in other countries but not in the States.
FRANCE :
Sleepy Hollow
Dark City
Scary Movie
Spawn
The Skulls
Taxi 1 and 2
Get Shorty
The Messenger : Joan Of Arc
Dogma
Scream 3
Upcoming in France (tentative) are the following title's :
Traffic
Book Of Shadows : Blair Witch 2
Apocalypse Now Redux (?!?)
The 5th Element : Ultimate Edition DTS-ES
Dungeons And Dragons
JAPAN
Cutthroat Island
Cliffhanger
Armageddon
Basic Instinct
The Sixth Sense
The Thin Red Line
Showgirls
And now upcoming in Japan :
The Sixth Day
The Cell
All and all a very nice list indeed.
I have several titles of this list and they all sound pretty fine to me.
What I wanted to know from you all if there is anyone out there who also owns some of these titles and tell us what
they think about it.
Thanx.

hey!
don't forget the awesome LES RIVIERES POURPRES. fabulous 2-disc set, full bit rate dts btw ( as often the case with R2 and Japanse discs too).
I hope NEW LINE USA revisits some of its titles in dts. Hey, BLADE AND DARK CITY were released in laserdisc dts so why not ?
I have SLEEPY HOLLOW, awesome dts.
I never checked the video bit rate but maybe ( just maybe ), it's a tad lower than r1 disc. Things like that are not as visible on a tv or widescreen tv than on a projector. My regret is this trend to put 4 tracks on the disc. I would have skipped the French tracks :D and just put subtitles. it's a bit overkill for a single RDSL disc (Sleepy Hollow for instance).
Where do you buy your Japanese dvds ?
Much tempted by THE 6TH DAY. The good thing with Japanse ( unless for hot titles like BASIC INSTINCT where they put those digital gizmos ..... :D ) is that it's nstc and thus no pal speed up issue, as opposed to R2 dts special releases.
And so far, R1 and Japanese dts discs still benefit from better skilled/equipped encoders.

There are many more dts releases in Japan than listed above. They include Sixth Sense, Stargate, Scream 3 and others. I am travelling now but can post others when I return home later this week

Actually THIN RED LINE is available in the R1 release(it's a re-release) with a fullbit rate track.
And you had forget to add in STARGATE.

Shawshank Redemption just came out in Japan with DTS. I own the French version of Joan Of Arc w/DTS and it sounds awesome!

Quint, do you know a site that stocks the DTS version of Dark City? All I can find is at DVDzone2 a collector's edition for pre-order in June, no mention of DTS.
Found a TFI version at amazon.fr but doesn't say whether DTS or whether anamorphic, the UK version isn't either.
Thanks, John

...Ahem... I don't know where this pearl of wisdom came from, but I would just say: Les Rivières pourpres... (2 x DVD-9 set includes terrific-sounding full-bit-rate dts soundtrack as well as a DD 5.1 soundtrack for the feature; stunning anamorphic 2.35:1 transfer; THX; OptiMode; not one but two intros: DD for those who opt for the DD track, DTS for those who prefer the dts track; beautifully designed 3-D animated menus; commentaries; multi-angle; making-of; interviews; packaging similar to "The Fight Club", except that a stiffer, more durable cardboard is used, not the flimsy almost-paper of the TFC...
. . .

yo Hendrik !

I have it and love it but even the dark scenes could have been a tad better done. But that's the only critic to make.
A beauty and a fury of DTS !!
My point is that still R1 and Japan R2 discs are better encoded ( mpeg ) especially. As for the sound, I can't stand PAL speedup so..... but those Japanese discs ARE expensive!

Gregory,
that list is by no means exhaustive, but it's the best place to start so far. I just came across it in my search for R2/japan dts titles

The Italian edition of "Nirvana" (the sf movie, not the band) has the Italian soundtrack in DTS.
Other editions that I've seen from France and the Netherlands have non-DTS French and English soundtracks (oddly, although the Italian soundtrack seems to be the "official" director-prefered soundtrack, the French actors - including Christophe Lambert - are dubbed in this version, while the Italian actors are dubbed in the French version).
I'm not sure if an R1 version has been released yet, but the Italian disc is definitely DTS, and the main menu also provides a great demonstration of multi-channel music.
