I'm not trying to start an argument on DTS-ES vs. DD-EX...
I got the Terminator2: Ultimate Edition DVD and it has BOTH a DTS-ES Matrix 6.1 mix AND a Dolby Digital-EX 6.1 mix....
Which one is better? The only other Discs I have that do the 6th channel are Episode one, and Gadiator. In both of those cases, it's obvious which format to choose because the other doesn't do the 6th channel.
But on this DVD I have the option to do either. Does anyone know which mix is better on THIS DVD?

May I suggest listening to them both and forming your own opinion? [IMG]

Gladiator's Dolby Digital track is in EX, just not marked clearly. If you look at the grid on the back with the squares demoting the number of channels, there's an empty square for the back center indicating a matrix EX mix.
Try sampling a scene in both formats(assuming you've seen the movie already)and dcide for yourself. All that's really important in the whole DTS vs. DD debate is which you prefer. [IMG]

Can open...........worms everywhere.[IMG] I really haven't compared them, so I can't tell you. Sorry. But the EX track is very, very good. But it's not quite up to the level of TPM DD-EX track. I don't think I've ever listened to the DTS track on T2. Why I have no idea.

Both tracks are excellent. I was just watching and demoing a few scenes tonight on this. One of my favorite scenes for cool surround effects and subtle sounds is the meeting between arnold, john, and the T1000 in the hall. The echo of the roses being stepped on is real cool, as is the shotgun cocking!
Both tracks are excellent, but I usually use the DTS track on that one. The DDEX has more booming loud bass on my setup, but the DTS bass is a little clearer and more direct in the punch. Both are excellent though!

Thanks everyone. I suppose I can't go wrong with either. I guess the question is, if there really isn't that big of a difference, then why include both tracks and leave less room for the movie itself?
I think the DTS intro at the beginning is a little cooler though, as if that's enough to give it an edge, [IMG]

But if the DTS track on THIS dvd is better, than by all means i'm glad they included it.

After all, they could have just dropped the dolby 5.1 track instead...

There are DVD's where the Dolby track sounds better, and DVD's where the DTS track sound better. I just wish someone more qualified than I am would give me a reason one way or another.

I wonder which one James Cameron listens to in his home?
