Does it take the one discrete rear surround and make
it into 2 matrix channels, or are they still considered
discrete from the other channels and slightly
different in relation to each other?

No I believe it just takes the single ES channel and places one of the two speakers it will feed out of phase which creates a sound image that is not as easy to pinpoint. At least thats what I gather from what others have said!

It doesn't use ULTRA2 because ULTRA2 is for 5.1 soundtracks only. It takes the signal and plays through both channels and applies Adaptive Decorrelation which restores surround spaciousness on mono surround signals.

I agree with above,I don't think that Ultra 2 could be applied to DTS ES Discrete signals in conjunction,it would be a silly idea anyhow IMO.

Well, at least not the ASA. Maybe just a Ultra2 version of all the old features like: ReEQ, Decorrelation, basslimiting, etc.
