I am upgrading my dvd player to progressive scan but have noticed some models do not have decoders built in.... like the panasonic 56 I think....
Is the dvd decoder necessary if you have a receiver with a decoder? I have the Yam RXV1.

No. As long as your DVD player can output the raw DD and DTS signals and your receiver can decode them, you don't need to worry.

    Donny,
What DVD players are you looking at? I figure I don't need a decoder and can save a few bucks if I buy a player that doesn't have one.
