No, you don't.

The DVD player would be hooked up to a DD / DTS rec. with a single Coax OR optical digital (audio) cable, and a single video cable.

Units with built-in decoders have a place in some set-ups, but are not widely used.

Colin is correct, you don't need a DVD player with a built-in decoder.

You MAY want a DVD player with SACD or DVD-Audio decoding capabilities, but it really depends on your budget and your amplifier.
