I just received a DTS 5.1 disc and was ver impressed. Though the price is right up there I downloaded a list of titles from DTS's website (there is not a lot of choice). The titles that interest me are : the Eagles Hell Freezes Over, Police's Every Breath You Take, Classic Mozart, and Don Henley's End of the Innocence. I was wondering if anyone out there has any of these discs, and could give me a heads up before purchase (they are expensive aren't they)?

Hi Doug, Being in canada if you know the right palces to shop you should be able to pick up the discs for $20 or less, try best buy or even dv-depot.com!:) :) The Eagles disc is outstanding and even you are a fan you will absolutely love the sooundstage mix, Police is okay but the mix is a little flat, mainly due to the early mix and source material. Other good albums include Sting and Sheryl crow. I am currently waiting for the DVD-A/DTS copy of Queens new outing and there are many more titles coming this year.If you love DTS you MUST listen to SACD and DVD-A this will blow you away.Happy listening

I have about 10 or 15 of them and they're all great. If you like Paul McCartney pick up the Quadrophonic 70s mixes of "Band on the Run" and "Venus & Mars".

I have a handful of these discs, and a few of my favorites are The Police Every Breath You Take: The Classics, Don Henley The End of the Innocence, Steve Miller Band Fly Like an Eagle, Eagles Hell Freezes Over, Sting Nothing Like the Sun, and Steely Dan Gaucho. That's almost all the DTS CDs I have! They sound quite good.

Some dealers are selling out their inventories of DTS CDs cheap since DTS has stopped producing them. DTS is now supporting DVD-Audio.

It looks like evolution DVD still has them on sale... Thats a great price.

I was looking through their selection and was wondering if anyone knows if: "Dave Brubeck Quartet: So What's New DTS" was on only on redbook and DTS. I own the redbook version but I don't see it out there on any other high res format. I guess the same goes for: "DMP Big Band Glenn Miller Project DTS"

Thanks,
-Aaron

Aaron, the Brubeck So What's New album is not out on DVD-Audio or SACD. I would expect to see it on SACD before DVD-Audio. That's a Telarc title, isn't it? Telarc already has one Brubeck SACD out (the 40th anniversary UK tour disc).

I really like Dave Brubeck, so I should grab the DTS CD for $10.

I highly recommend that any jazz fans who like multichannel music buy the Chick Corea & Friends disc "Remembering Bud Powell" DTS CD. Make sure your speakers are up to the task, this very aggressive mix puts you right in the middle of the band.

Keith,

Yes, it's a telarc title. But according to the CD it's from a 20bit digital master, so I don't know if the SACD would be more than marginally better. I'm going to definetly pick up the DTS CD though.

Philip,

Thanks, I'm going to check that out. I wonder if it's on sale for $10...

A side note: Why do places like Evolution DVD and Acoustic Sounds *NOT* have SSL secured checkouts? It seems like an obvious error to me... But maybe thats because I'm in the biz. I hate having to call when it's so much easer to click.

I picked up the Allman Brothers Live at the Fillmore East this weekend and finally listened to it last night. Not bad.

Just a thought, since we're on the HTF. Assuming you have a DVD player, why would you buy Eagles:HFO on dts CD, when the DVD (which includes video with its dts track) costs about $14?

Jeff,
My thoughts exactly. No need to get the DTS CD of "Hell Freezes Over", when you can get the DVD, which AFAIK has even more material.

PS: Oh yeah, and it's a great disc! :D

I was talking about the DVD version of the Eagles HFO DTS disc. ;) and not the CD version...I should have clarified.

I have 5 of these discs: Gaucho, Band on the Run, 461 Ocean Boulevard, A Brand New Day and Honey. While the quality on all of them is exceptional, the 5.1 remixes range from mild(461 Ocean Boulevard) to excellent(A Brand New Day). I know "Honey" by the Ohio Players was derived from the quadraphonic mix because my brother had this album in 4-channel 8-Track cartridge many years ago.
