Bought two while the rebate was out there in September; irregardless, if you want one and can get it for $ 99, I think it is a great steal. CS had them for $ 99 and $ 0.01 for a dual LNB dish.
Have read about the added TV experience of using TIVO. I pretty much agree with it, it puts you in more control, you can - well just search on this site.
Ther are some down sides: Your D* bill will reflect TIVO service - yet you can have multiple TIVO DirecTV units and pay this only once and as usual, you D* bill will go up $4.95 per additional receiver. Additionall, you can only record form the D* service.
The upside is: You can record two channel or watch and record a different channel.
Since I have multiple units, a HDTV STB, I watch what ever and record two shows to be viewed later. The ballpark 35 hours and fast forward through commercials is a plus!
    Good Luck,

I bought one yesterday at CC for $99. The Sony was $399, with a $200 rebate. I figured for $99, I'd take a chance on the Phillips.
    So far so good!

Costas, You would have to sign up with D TV within 90 days to avoid full price being charged to your CC

And, since they only record DirecTV, there's not much point in having one without the satellite service.

I thought they only recorded two shows at once with DTV, but were able to function as regular Tivos without it...

Major downside for me...what if I get tired of Direct TV and want to go back to cable? I lost my Tivo?
