If this were a new computer processor, somebody would have done some dirty-room reverse engineering somewhere. Alas, there probably isn't enough money in high-res to motivate anyone.

Anyhow, John is absolutely right...you never really know what is going on inside of a DSP, and it often is not in the best interest of the maker to say what does.

...And if the final output properly specs as DSD, does it really matter?

If a Miles Davis SACD was converted to PCM then back in a forest and no one was there to hear it, did it really make a sound?
