    Hey All,

Just wondering if there has been an UNedited release of Jackie Chan's "DRUNKEN MASTER 2" on DVD yet?

I realize the U.S. one is edited, but has there been any announcement/release for an Official HK version in the original Chinese Language w/ English Subtitles?

    Thanks.

Nope, the official HK version is now edited as well, but it does sport the superior transfer and OSL and English subs. Same goes for all the other US released Chan films by everyone but Columbia

There is the Thakral DVD from China.
It has the original ending and the original Cantonese soundtrack with optional English subtitles. However, the film has been reframed for 1.78:1 and its letterbox widescreen.

Here is a review of the THAKRAL version.

Avoid these if they are on Ebay.
Thanks to Disney, we'll probably NEVER see this film as orginally intended.
I think it's time I hunted down the laser disc.

Thanks for the info everyone. Some follow-up:

    1. Would you all recommend the Official HK DVD release? (since it was mentioned that it has superior Video/Audio quality to the US one.)

    2. Or is the Thakral DVD better? (it's uncut, but reformatted)

    3. Where can I order the HK or Thakral DVD release of Drunken Master II? I usually go to Poker Industries for imports, but they don't even list them.

    Thanks.

Poker doesnt' list them because Disney is threatening to sue domestic retailers that carry the cheaper and unbutchered imports

The WB HK disc uses the same transfer/edit as the US disc, but it does have OSL, making it the best overallin terms of AV quality

    Hi Jeff,

Thanks for the FYI on Poker. If I may ask, *where* can I buy the original HK DVD then? Any recommendations?

    Thanks.

Try hkflix, Kenneth. I just ordered it from there a few days ago at $29.95. It's one of the few HK Dvd sites that's still selling the THAKRAL version. Most, even ones based in Hong Kong like the excellent DDDHouse, now only stock the Warners HK release.
For other Jackie Chan and HK films I really recommend using DDDhouse. I just recieved SHOLIN SOCCER - Special Edition and THE EYE from them both at only apporox US$15 each including shipping (which is dam good value!) Plus they arrived by regestered mail in just five days.

Damn I wish HKL would get the rights to this. Didn't they release the first one?

If you read HKL's FAQ, Disney owns this and many other films they'd love to do worldwide

The Warner Home DVD is R3 and has no english subtitles. I'd get the Thrakal if I were getting it on DVD. But I'm still keeping my Tai Seng VHS.

R3 has no subs? I knew there was some reason I hadn't gotten it yet......

What?? No English Subs? Whoa, OK, huge favor:
    * Can someone else verify that the Official HK DVD of "Drunken Master II" does *NOT* have English Subtitles?
If that is true, then the only real option for all us DM fans is to get...
    * The Thakral version on DVD? [IMG]
Or suffer the Cut/Edited/Dub-Only U.S. DVD right? [IMG]

Or someone can rip the subs from the Thrakal version and then use DVDSubber to watch the HK disc (albeit edited, gahh)

    Jeff Jacobson -

    Correct!
Thanks Disney! Disney has worldwide rights. Nobody else will be able to release the original going forward. A movie is lost for generations to come.
