    Didn't happen during T2 DTS at all, but on this title, the sound will drop out for a split second every 10 to 15 minutes. This has been reported on other titles.
    The DTS soundtrack for this title never dropped out while playing in my Toshiba.
    This is using Coax out, by the way.

    I had compatability problems when the first half-bitrate dts titles debuted. Many audio dropouts on Red Violin, Saving Private Ryan, Roy Orbison, etc.
    disc-->player-->pre/pro=dropouts
    Red Violin-->S7700-->Millennium= No
    Red Violin-->S7700-->HK Sig2.0= Yes
    Red Violin-->S9000-->HK Sig2.0= No
    I interpet this as not a player or pre/pro or disc problem, but a compatability issue among the three

    No pattern Eugene. It would just happen once in a while. The dropout is instant. So quick you will miss it unless there is music playing or loud sounds going on.
    Steve, with what DVD player?
    I'll be calling the folks at avdeals tomorrow about this. Hopefully they will know more.

    Someone from another fourm had a similar problem several years ago. A slight drop out every 10-15 minutes.
    One day, he noticed that his coax cable was a AUDIO cable with a red-band. Not a real Video cable.
    He grabbed a video cable and used it - problem solved.
    Check your cable.

    Don't know if this applies to you, but my Onkyo does strange things when I have Re-EQ enabled during DTS tracks (this has been documented extensively on this forum). It doesn't happen on ALL DTS discs, but at least 1/3 of the ones I've tried have this problem. Perhaps your prepro has a similar equalization feature that may be causing this effect.
    To be quite honest, I now prefer DD and DTS without Re-EQ enabled. So for me it's a non-issue.

    Well that is definitely a concern. I have been looking to buy an Integra receiver, which is made by Onkyo. Which model Onkyo do you have?

    What do you folks have BASS CUTOFF set at with your Malata?
    Others have reported DTS dropouts with the Malata, so this may be a firmware upgrade issue. I tried switching cables, but that did not work.

    The reported fix for DTS dropouts is to change the Video Filter to Camera 1.
    What this does is fix the DTS problem, while impacting the picture quality. There are now noticeable combing and shimmering effects. Totally unacceptable. Movie, Still and Auto are the only settings that look like true DVD. The Camera settings look very poor on a large screen.
    I'll pass this on to avdeals.

    Well shoot, I look once, my comment didn't show up. So I add it again, then they are both there. Oh well, that's life I suppose.

    Matt, have you had many other problems with this player? I saw your earlier reviews which were all good. I'm planning on buying this soon, but I wanted to make sure its worth it. Are you still happy with it overall?
    Also, how is the interlaced picture? I'm mainly looking to get it for the PAL->NTSC and region free capabilities and I don't have a DTV yet.

    Try a new audio cable to see if that maybe the problem. I had a similar problem with audio dropouts on my progressive scan player and changed the audio cable and it turned out to be the solution.

    If you have an Onkyo Receiver, turn Cinema Re-EQ off. Period. 2001 Onk/Integra turns reeq off automatically when in DTS.

    It's not a cable problem. It's a confirmed player defect that is being worked on, according to avdeals. A firmware upgrade is in the works. I'll be patient.
    Other than the DTS issue, I am 100% satisfied with the player. Once I get my Radio Shack remote programmed, I'll be a happy camper.

    How do they handle the firmware upgrade on these?
