Not sure if I'm in the right place here...

A friend has an old (30 years?) pair of Infinity speakers and the foam portion of the 12" woofers have rotted. The cabinets are still in great shape so he would like to keep them. Can anyone recommend a good replacement driver? Is PartsExpress a good source?

    Thanks...

Contact the company, see if they still sell the woofers that go with those speakers. If not, then it will probably be completely impossible to find a woofer that is of the exact same specs as the rotten one. Those cabinets, and crossovers were designed specificly for the rotten woofers, so, you would need to find another woofer that is exactly the same as the one you need to replace.

Thanks! If they don't make the same woofers anymore, is it better to just buy new speakers?

Using new woofers means building a new crossover. Just get the drivers reconed/refoamed

http://www.newfoam.com/ offers good service if you're on the east coast. http://www.speakerrepair.com/ is good if you're on the west coast.

Do a google search for other places

www.partsexpress.com sells kits to fix almost any foam surround on woofers...

I found an ad in an old Stereo Review about 9 years ago ago..and my Marantz HD 88's were biting the dust...I figured why not and ordered a pair..They are still going strong..

I've done more than a dozen pairs for myself and friends. It's really pretty easy.

I wish I had known before I tore up the spider on the woofer from an old pair of Ohmn speakers.[IMG]
