Doesn't Dreamworks already have an animation division? Where did Antz, both Shrek movies, Sinbad and Spirit come from?

They've had an animation division since 1998. Hell,"Dreamworks Animation" was the logo used for Shrek 2 and that came out in May.

The link is broken, but here's one that works:

Dreamworks is not "launching" an animation division; they're spinning it an existing one as a separate company that will be publicly owned. The $650 million is what is expected to be raised by the public offering, and it will be used to pay down existing debt. This development has been rumored for a long time now.

I am amending the thread title so that's it's accurate (replacing "launches" with "spins off").
