Any dream theater fans out there?
Yes, Dream Theater does rock! I watched some live performances I downloaded and they are incredible!
Do a search on Dream Theater and you will see there are plenty of us around here!
Oh yeah, we are swarming the forum. DT praises pop out every other day around here.
As well as it should.
I'm seeing them next Thursday.
i've only recently discovered them, and they are fantastic!
Why can't they come to Canada
another fan right here.
I saw the DT/Ryche show last night. It was outstanding. You're in for a major treat. I don't want to spoil anything, but just in case you haven't heard, don't leave early.
I believe they have at least one, maybe two Canadian dates on the current tour.
I was at the opening Houston show, was great
Another DT fan here.
Any info on new stuff? All I know is they planned on being done with their takes by the tour they just started so they could master it later this year and it's supposed to have a metal slant.
Isn't the lead singer from Canada? He should at least stop by!
Rob, I'm glad the show was good. I'm taking a friend of mine. All she has heard of any of the bands is Scenes From a Memory, which she liked, but is wary about the other bands. Frankly, I myself am wary of Queensryche (although I'm a huge fan) because I don't know if DeGarmo is touring with them, my friend's brother said he was "not impressed" when he saw them recently, and their last two albums, while not bad, don't have the same punch as their earlier material.
Hmm... don't leave early, eh? I'm going to guess that maybe members from the different bands will jam together or something.
Actually, I'm even more excited to see Fates Warning, since I've seen the other two before and I love FW.
Your insight serves you well...
I, too, was excited to see Fates, and was not disappointed. They're only playing for 1/2 and hour, so it's pretty stripped down with no keyboards. But they sounded great, and the set list was good.
I was surprised how much I enjoyed Queensryche. They used to be one of my favorite bands, but the post-1994 material has been weak, to say the least. They only played one song off the new album, and the rest of the set was Empire and back. They definitely know what the crowd wants to hear. Overall, I enjoyed their set much more than I was expecting. They do use some backing tracks and try to pass them off as live background vocals, which annoys the hell out of me.
It's interesting how different the performances are. With DT, there's so much going on, it's hard to decide who to watch. With the 'Ryche, Tate is in definite command of the stage.
Thanks for the info, John.
I must say I'm dissappointed. DeGarmo is a founding member and chief songwriter for them and I was never comfortable with the idea of Queensryche continuing as a band without him. I'm sure whoever they get will play the guitar fine, but still...
I'm a huge Beard fan and totally dig Nick's playing, but Mark Zonder is, to me, the most interesting metal drummer ever. He is one of the major reasons I've always wanted to see Fates Warning, and now he's not gonna be there. On the "bright" side, they're only an opening act. Hopefully, one day, I'll see Fates in full stride.
Interesting. I never thought Jordan Rudess would be involved in a project like that. Should be interesting.
I recently ordered the special 2-disc Scenes from a Memory that is comprised of alternate mixes, takes, and demos. Should be pretty cool. On Portnoy's Liquid Drum Theater DVD, you can hear one of the alternate mixes (mixed by David Botrill) on the song Home. I like it better than the originally released mix--you can hear more of Rudess' piano.
Going to see all three of these bands tomorrow here in CT. It will be my third time seeing Dream Theater live, but surprisingly the first time for Fates and the first time also for Queensryche, seeing as I have been a big fan since '88. Can't wait, especially after hearing Queensryche's set list, but have to say I will be disappointed without Degarmo and Zonder as I have been a Fates follower since "Perfect Symmetry".
