My wife and i saw this today as part of a Valentine's date. We were surprised by how much we liked it.

Good mix of comedy and weightiness, well acted by Farell and the Seinfeld girl, and doesn't overstay.

A remake of Force Majeure. I liked the original very much.

I hadn't heard of this until I saw showtimes posted for it at my theater for this weekend, and I usually know about everything, even the movies I don't want to see. Whatever marketing Searchlight/Disney did for this film certainly didn't get out very far.

Very small debut weekend and Cinemascore is D+, so it won't be around for long.

That's a strange complete opposite to my lack of experience with it. I guess it must have been screening with a bunch of movies I didn't see.

I definitely saw it with "Clemency" last week, and I think it ran before "Little Women" and "Bombshell" as well.

Huh - looking at the AMC app, I just realized my last 5 theatrical movies all featured female leads! Those 3 plus "Birds of Prey" and "Like a Boss"!

Might've seen the "Downhill" trailer with "Boss", too. Like I said - I saw it a lot! :)

Saw "Downhill" and thought it was perfectly... meh.

It's never sure if it wants to be a relationship drama or a comedy, and it handles neither side well.

It brings a thin story that never really develops the characters, so we fail to care much what happens to them.

At 86 minutes, at least it doesn't wear out its welcome, and the stars have enough presence to keep us vaguely interested, but it's a disappointment!

It's going to be very exciting when they do the English language remake of Parasite with Will Ferrell and...ah...Paris Hilton.

It seems like the kind of story that might lose something in translation.

That's why my comment about Downhill was so brief. Instead of carping about its mediocrity, watch the original, a good film: Force Majeure. I was told it's available in Hulu and maybe other platforms. I own the BD.

Unfair slam on Ferrell. He's a perfectly capable actor...

I haven’t seen the movie, and I agree that Ferrell can be a better dramatic actor than his comedic persona would indicate.

That said, sometimes films are hurt in casting by the baggage the audience carries when they think of certain actors. You’ve got two comedic television superstars playing against type in a film where we’re meant to have complex feelings in response to an unthinkably awful split second lapse in judgment one of the characters have. And when you put two people in there that are known not just for comedy but for being aggressively showy types of comic actors, it has the potential for making the audience react differently than the story itself supports. The audience is waiting to laugh and waiting to not take the situation seriously, when that may be the opposite of the intended mood.

I agree about the casting. "Downhill" would've been better served with only 1 of the leads played by a known comic actor. With 2, people expect a much more comedic affair.

And the trailers sold it as a comedy. A low-key comedy, but still a comedy.

As I mentioned, the movie never settles on a tone. Better films can balance comedy and drama, but this one ain't a "better film"! :)

I like Will, the shot was at the idea that there is most certainly an English language remake of Parasite in the pipeline.

There's actually a limited series on HBO being made. It figures that what amount of story the South Korean director Bong jammed into a movie... the US can only fit in a limited series. They say it will be stories 'in between' but who cares if we already know the outcome of each character's fate?

I saw it today and it was very meh. Not particularly funny but I didn't hate it. Highlight for the night was watching the trailers and a trailer for some drama starring Mick Jagger played.
