Hello. I am going to put up a pair of outdoor speakers above my deck. I am going to power them with an Onkyo 595 receiver, using the "B" switch. I live in NJ so the winters can be harsh, though I would probably take them down after October or so.

    Here are the three choices:

NHT Outdoor One: cheapest price $230 at 6th Ave.

    Boston Acoustics: cheapest price $310

Klipsch SA-1: cheapest price $248 Yahoo shopping.

The BA is probably best to withstand the weather, the Klipsch is at the other end, but still OK. The NHT has the largest of the woofers. All weigh and size about the same.

Has anyone tried all three (or any)? Any suggestions?

    Thanks.

Also give the Paradigms a listen. I have a pair hanging under my eaves and they sound reasonably good (its hard for an audiophile to be thrilled with the sound of an outdoor speaker. Probably cost a bit less than the others you mentioned (which I have not heard).

I have 2 sets of Mirage Oasis, which is exactly the same as Energy's Tempest line. They sound fantastic and have no problems standing up to the elements (1 pair above a hot tub, the other on a boat in saltwater).

List price is 300.00, but Tweeter sells for 199.99. This sale/loss leader cannot be beat !

My parents live in Maine and have a pair of Boston Acoustic outdoor speakers up under the roof's overhang (completely out of the rain/snow/ice). We have NEVER taken them down, nor do we use them in the winter. The speakers have been up there TEN years.

The key is not using them in the winter... Instead of taking them down I'd think about just unplugging them from the B posts as insurance.

I'd agree with Kirk, the Tempest are very nice for the price.
