Admittedly, There are few scatered titles of Douglas Fairbanks silent era that have surfaced on to wonderful BLDs, but...of those tittles Thief of Bagdad and The Black Pirate ( both exelently done), I find myself asking...Where's that same love given to; Robin Hood 1922, The 3 Musketeers 1921, The Iron Mask 1929 or most of all The 1920 classic The Mark of Zorro?? Sure, there are poor 3rd and 4th gen DVDs that are so worn and washed out that it feels like your watching these classics on Youtube!! I'm just asking is there anyone that know of any of these titles up for an upcoming and well deserved upgrade? Douglas Fairanks was one amazing actor and athlete. very few could or would do what he did!! one of the founding members of United Artists as well. Before Errol Flynn, Tyron Power...It was Douglas Fairbanks!!

The Three Musketeers will be released by the good and very reliable people in charge of the Biograph Project. It'll probably see the light of day in 2022. It's a full restoration, and I'm looking forward to it.
Wonderful, please share any links or info that you might have, please!! And thanks for the heads up!!

I think Biograph will also be releasing a double feature of two of Fairbanks' pre-swashbucklers - Double Trouble and Mr. Fix-It. Cohen has also done some restoration work on a few Fairbanks titles like Robin Hood and perhaps The Iron Mask. Have there been any rumblings about those or any other titles from Cohen/Kino?

Any dates on the product from Cohen brothers on Robin Hood in iron mask at all? Go ahead and bird-dog it and I’ll try and do the same and see what we can come up with? I’m just tired of these people grabbing whatever they can find doing nothing to them and dropping them on the disks and calling them remastered… Just not acceptable!!

If and when Cohen/Kino gets around to releasing Robin Hood, I hope they use the John Scott score for musical accompaniment (a little over an hour of it is on YouTube (without the film visuals) and it is very good).

I could understand that being paired quite well with the with Robin Hood. Part of the beginning sounds like Rob and American in Sherwood. Thanks so much this is great.

Not a Blu-Ray, but a rather interesting curio for Fairbanks fans recently turned up on Presto Music with a date of March 4th, a new recording of the original Mortimor Wilson score for The Thief of Bagdad:

1642426240197.jpeg
First recording of the original score for the 1924 silent filmstarring Douglas Fairbanks.

Written almost 100 years ago, The Thief of Bagdad is one of the greatest ever film scores and incredibly, has never been recorded until now FHR are honoured to be able to release the first recording of this wonderful score. Recorded in 2019, this recording features one of greatest European orchestras, the Frankfurt Radio Symphony, along with conductor Mark Fitz-Gerald who has an unparalleled reputation for performing the very specialised task of accompanying silent films live with orchestra.

The score was written by the American composer Mortimer Wilson at the specific request of the film's main star actor Douglas Fairbanks. The Thief of Bagdad is now widely considered one of the great silent films and Fairbanks's greatest work. For the first time, Fairbanks recognised the composer as a creative collaborator from the start in the overall composition of his film (Wilson spent many hours in the projection room working out precise timings for every scene). Wilson was essentially a classical composer. Indeed, you can hear influences of Puccini's aria Vissi d'arte from Tosca, hints of Wagner's Valkyrie, along with moments of Alban Berg, Reger and Tchaikovsky.

Fairbanks biographer Jeffrey Vance writes, "An epic romantic fantasy-adventure inspired by several of the Arabian Nights tales, The Thief of Bagdad is the greatest artistic triumph of Fairbanks's career. The superb visual design, spectacle, imaginative splendor, and visual effects, along with his bravura performance (leading a cast of literally thousands), all contribute to making this his masterpiece."

Last night TCM showed a double bill of Double Trouble and Mr. Fix-It. Very enjoyable films.
since cutting the cable I have truly missed TMC, there is a hub on HBOMax that offers various titles from the TMC archives, but I sorely miss the intro / outros and commentaries by the various hosts. Robert Osborne is a lose for the channel but others are in his wake....I dearly wish that TMC would do a live app for all of us that love the channel but are without the ability to view it without being hornswaggled into a cable agreement...sad!!!

Are you referring to The Movie Channel (TMC), or Turner Classic Movies (TCM)

Made an account just to join in! I see the Cohen Film Collection have a 2K restoration of Robin Hood and have shown it in December 2021 (source: https://quadcinema.com/film/robin-hood/). Has anyone heard anything about a home media release, or is this too early, or...? I'm trying to organise a screening of the film in October for it's 100th anniversary, and it'd be great to have the best quality version available, rather than the 700x400 copy I have! Thanks all!

This is the first time I’ve seen it, I’d love to have 2K addition of this film in my collection. Anyone else know about this? I’ll be checking into it and give updates when I can. Thanks so much for the heads up on this.

Frustrating news - Tim Lanza from Cohen says there are no Blu-Ray plans this year (year!) and the film is only available as a digital cinema package for events... Nor is there an option to purchase a copy directly. You'd think a 100th anniversary release would be a no-brainer!
