Has any one heard anything of the statis of a movie based on the game Doom, last thing I had heard there were problems with finacial backing and director/producer issues. This is my first post and I would like to say thanks for an excellant forum with plenty of helpful and sometimes amusing info. [IMG]

Well I'd be interested to know how they really had a movie prepared for this. So far games to films have never impressed me, with Tomb Raider being a narrow best. But then it was at least a game with a strong 'plot' element. Doom is just a concept.

I guess if someone could utilise it and produce a decent movie...But I think it's unlikely anyone would make this without the backup of a worldwide interest in the game.

Now Half-Life might be a better bet but I still don't see it really. The only game I can really imagine making an interesting (if still hackneyed movie) would be System Shock 2.

When I had first heard of them making a Doom movie(this is a couple of years ago)Arnold was involved, then supposedly Tom Brannigan(platoon)wanted to be in it since he was a fan of the game. There are a couple rumor sites where I had originally heard of the movie.

    Theo,

I agree with you about Half-Life being better material for a movie. Hell, just playing that game all the way through makes you feel like your in a movie.

Possible plot synopsis for Doom: The Movie
Act 1: Our intrepid hero who I'll call 'Doom-guy' is travelling on an intergalactic volyage, bound for the far reaches of the known universe. The crew, all in stasis, are woken when the ship responds to a distress beacon from a nearby planet. With no thought given to the potential danger involved, they dock the ship in orbit around the planet, and cruise down to the surface to investigate the distress beacon. On approach, an anti-aircraft gun opens fire on the drop-ship, causing a spectacular crash, of which, 'Doom-guy' is the sole survivor. Emerging from the carft he sees a seething-horde of devilish aliens, hell-bent on sucking out his brains.
Act 2: He blows the shit out of the entire population. [IMG]
So basically, Aliens, but in space. No wait, Aliens is already... [IMG]
I'd be there. Give George A. Romero a pen. And make him sign.

Oh hell yeah, if they make this movie I will be the first in line to watch. i don't care if they have plot development, a fancy story, or interesting characters. I just want Doom guy to blow the HELL out of everything on screen.

God what i wouldn't give for them to make this movie.

Doom doesnt need a good plot, just lots of action and blowing demons and zombies away.

There's a lot of Doom threads, someone should merge them.

Anyway, I think this now has a lot of promise, especially going by the recent interviews I posted in another thread.

Awesome to finally see the trailer! No shots of the ~6 minute long "First Person" POV scene, that I could tell.

I think an interesting idea for this movie would be to do a real-time helmet cam. The whole move. Kinda think of Blair Witch project meets doom. This could draw more suspense and really be another inovating film. 3/4 through the flick our, "doom-man" gets his helmet knocked off and you see how truly bloodied he has gotten. Just for a split second then he puts it back on and gives us a wicked one liner and moves on to give more destruction.

If it were in this format I think that you could produce a wild rollarcoaster movie that is intense start to finish.

    Anyways just my 2 cents.

They are already doing that Taylor, well sort of. There is a section of the movie that is all from the first person point of view, just like in the game. The only thing you see is the gun in the lower right corner. They also play up all of the little nuances of the game, like turning and shooting at a figure, only to see that it is your own reflection. Done that, quite a few times in Doom III. [IMG]

Just saw the latest trailer and...Dayyymn! I hate to say it but this could be a really fun action movie.
I hope they don't overuse that 1st person shot too much.
My favorite shot is near the end of the trailer showing the Pinky deamon and the chainsaw firing up.
Silly marine...chainsaw can never beat Pinky! [IMG]
