I don't mind when commericals take songs, often songs not heard much and turn them into 'hits'. VW and the german band Trio comes to mind and Tones on Tail and the song Go more recently.
But Olympus taking the Johnny Lee Hooker classic "Boom Boom Boom" and changing Boom to Zoom is wrong
Changing a dead man's words is about as low as you cn get
It just came on Tv again an it really pisses me off

Haven't heard the commercial, but who "owns" the song, maybe they sold it?

The Who sold out (I don't know that really), but I remember when Diana Krall tried to cash in on her 15 minutes of fame, and did Chrysler commercials that we were seein' about 15 times a day for a few months. Boy, you never get so tired of a "class" performer so fast as when they do crummy commercials!

Sounds like time for a bourbon, a scotch, and a beer...

They might have sold out but at least they didn't change it from Who's Next to Who's Beck Beer

One of the oddest ones I've heard is a version of "Right Here, Right Now" originally by Jesus Jones that is now in a sears commercial. They changed the "there is no other place I'd rather be" to something about "..for the holidays". Very odd indeed.

I didn't realize that her 15 minutes were up.

I don't think that Diana is in the same exact league as Ruben Studdard or Hillary Duff.

I thought the most prophetic song/product tie up was Microsoft Windows 98...

"You make a grown man cry...."

    John Watson,

Huh?? While I never heard that, I do remember Celine Dion's God-awful voice screeching at me from some Chrysler commercials... could it be that's who you're thinking of?

And for the record, I don't see where the "15 minutes of fame" comment came from.

    Brett,

You are correct, it was Celine Dion who did the V/O for Chrysler commercials. There were even a few filmed with her in a vehicle.

I don't remember Diana Krall doing any commercials for Chrysler, and I don't think Diana has even started her 15 minutes of fame yet. I don't think mainstream has picked her up yet like they did with Norah Jones.

Pretty sure it was Chrysler, maybe we Canadians were "priveleged", but whatever car, I haven't bought one of her cds since.

I look forward to collaborations with Elvis tho.

For the record, I have never, ever, bought a Celine Dion cd.

As for stars selling their name for their opinions on things which they know nothin' special about, I remain disdainful.

In Melanie's old words, "Look what they've done to my song Ma".

Actually wasn't it Windows 95 that had the Start Me Up ad campaign?
One campaign that I really liked was the Apple iMac in all of the colors set to "She's a Rainbow". Great ad.
