Let’s look at Donovan’s Reef. When they first worked together on Mother Machree (1928), John Ford had already established himself as a reliable director while John Wayne was just relatively new to Hollywood. Over the next three decades – especially after the success of Stagecoach (1939) – the duo had established themselves as one of the most recognized actor & director collaborations in Hollywood history. By the time the 1960’s, Ford was entering the twilight years of his career when he and Wayne made Donovan’s Reef, which marked the 24th and final time the two would work together. Kino has licensed the movie from Paramount Pictures for its UHD Blu-ray debut.

A personal favorite film of mine from my childhood. I try to watch it every two years. I watched the 4K/UHD about a month ago and concur with your fine review about the disc's audio and video presentations. I watched the disc again with the McBride audio commentary. I will try the second audio commentary on my next viewing.

I viewed my copy recently and concur with the review - best the film has looked and sounded on home video, by far.

And I might be in the minority but I enjoy Ford’s sense of humor as a filmmaker and I love when Wayne does comedy, so this one ticks all the boxes for me. Fabulous supporting cast too.

Watching a favorite film about every two years is a good idea. It keeps them fresh.
And Donovan’s Reef is an excellent movie!
