Great! I'd pretty much given up hope after reading Donnys comments that licensing costs/issues had pretty much put the kibosh on a "best of" collection. Looks like they ironed that out. 8 hours is kind of paltry, but a little of this material can go a long way. I just hope that they showcase more of the first two years rather than the last two (the best of VHS tapes seemed to be more heavily weighted to the last seasons, after it was all just a bit tired)
My favorite part of the show was just seeing the two interact. They had wonderful chemistry together and even if the bits were scripted, they were such natural, effortless performers that you can barely tell.
I watched The Donny & Marie Show when I was a kid, but due to the bad acting by the two sibling hosts and too much music and a lack of comedy I'd stay away from it now.
There are some really good guest stars to recommend it though in their later years, such as Edgan Bergen, Paul Lynde, and I seem to recall George Burns being on the show too.
I only want the famous Star Wars episode, which was followed up the next week by a Wizard of Oz episode (BAD TV fans: look out for Lucille Ball as the Tin Man!) Silly as they were, those two episodes marked the peak of the series. I hope they are included. However, I have yet to see any formal announcement on this dvd, including content. Is there a link anywhere??
I didn't care for a lot of the 70s softer rock and disco music that didn't exactly help The Donny and Marie Show, but it was a product of its time. I didn't know Lucille Ball guested. If a few of the comedy sketches ever turn up on You Tube.com I'll check 'em out that way.
