I got a million laughs from this guy over the years. His appearances on Johnny Carson are some of my great memories of TV. Don was absolutely hilarious on the Dean Martin roasts as well. Another television icon gone.

Loved him. Also an underrated actor, in movies like X: THE MAN WITH THE X-RAY EYES, THE RAT RACE (Debbie Reynolds and Tony Curtis), and CASINO.

Loved him in his guest starring appearances on The Dick Van Dyke Show, too. He could be a very effective dramatic actor as well, and was happy for him when he finally was rewarded with an Emmy late in his career for his HBO special mounted by John Landis.

R.I.P., you hockey puck!

At 90, he'd live a full and long life but this is still a bit shocking because he was active in the public eye right up until the end. A year or so ago, he made the late night rounds to promote the "C.P.O. Sharkey" DVD sets.

He was on Kimmel last fall:

Just saw this on one of the news sites. Certainly not shocked, but it is incredible how many places I've run across him on screens.

My one trip to Las Vegas as a graduation present, my best friend went along and it was the one show we paid to go see -- Rickles and Mac Davis. However funny he was on TV, he was far moreso in person. This would have been near the peak of the Pryor/Martin/Newhart/Carlin years, but Rickles easily held his own. Certainly one of the greatest talk show guests (and hosts for that matter) ever.

I'm glad that good old Don Rickles made it to 90...a WW2 US Navy Combat Veteran of the Pacific...and a 60+ year career as a Legendary and Brilliant Comedian...the "Merchant of Venom", "The Beast of Beverly Hills" and, of course, "Mr. Warmth" himself...so glad that StarVista/Time-Life gave us the complete CPO Sharkey on DVD...glad that we have him in those legendary Dean Martin Roasts too...NY Friar's Club Roasts on Youtube...and some of his legendary Johnny Carson appearances...I'm going to revisit "Run Silent Run Deep", "Kelly's Heroes" and "Casino" soon...and have a Rickles film festival with Don's guest starring appearances on Wagon Train, TZ, Burke's Law, Dick Van Dyke Show, Addams Family, Munsters, Beverly Hillbillies, Gomer Pyle, Andy Griffith Show, F Troop, Wild Wild West, I Spy, Lucy Show, I Dream of Jeannie, Get Smart, Newhart and Larry Sanders Show...

Rest in Peace, "Crap Game", "Lyle Delp", "Big Drag", "Jack Fanny", "Doc Happy Havemeyer", "Bald Eagle", "Sid Krimm", "CPO Sharkey", "Don Prince", "Billy Sherbert" and "Mister Potato Head"...

Impossible to pick out one thing he did but I was always very fond of his appearance on Get Smart. He and Don Adams were good friends, and they played off each other very well. Rickles was also quite funny at Adams' 75th birthday roast, which is an extra on the Get Smart DVDs.

^^ insult comedy is a lost art on the younguns. They don't get this stuff. I watched the episode of SNL a few weeks ago with Joan Rivers (another master at it) and Joe Piscipo dueling for who was the real Joan. It was hysterical. She laughed at people, laughed at herself with equal skill. I think with all the political humor going on it will bring it back. Triumph the Insult Doggie often has me in stitches.

Yeah, I remembered his Bald Eagle on F Troop. Pretty funny!
cool I just bought those! didn't know he was on that. :D
