Dolby and VUDU Launch the Future Home Theater Experience with Immersive Sound and Advanced Imaging

Consumers can now watch Warner Bros. titles mastered in Dolby Atmos and Dolby Vision

San Francisco, November 17, 2015Dolby Laboratories, Inc. (NYSE:DLB) today announced that VUDU® customers now have access to a catalog of Warner Bros.® titles remastered for Dolby Vision™ and mixed in Dolby Atmos® to complete the cinematic home theater experience. Consumers with Dolby Vision enabled televisions, like the VIZIO Reference Series, and with Dolby Atmos enabled home theater products can now enjoy a variety of next-generation entertainment content through VUDU.

Dolby’s immersive sound and visual technologies, including Dolby Vision and Dolby Atmos, provide the complete next-generation home entertainment experience for consumers. Dolby Vision transforms your TV experience with dramatic imaging—incredible brightness, contrast, and color that bring entertainment to life before your eyes. It achieves this astonishing image quality through innovative high-dynamic-range (HDR) technologies that, compared to a standard picture, can deliver brighter highlights, more light-to-dark contrast, and colors never before seen on TV. Dolby Atmos enabled home theater products allow sound to move around the room in a three-dimensional way in order to create a more powerfully immersive and emotive soundscape and experience. Together, the groundbreaking technologies provide viewers with an unparalleled home entertainment experience.

“Dolby is excited to bring Dolby Vision and Dolby Atmos entertainment content to consumers,” said Curt Behlmer, SVP, Content Solutions & Industry Relations, Dolby Laboratories. “With this development, Dolby elevates and advances the movie-watching experience at home and provides people with the ability to enjoy movies with ultra-vivid colors, expanded contrast, and immersive sound.”

While I am not a fan of digital downloads I decided to supliment my movie collection and Direct TV with both Netflix and Vudu. Am glad that I will be able to watch movies with Dolby Atmos with Vudu. Thought about it for some time then decided to add Netflix and Vudu. Am waiting for pay day to rent a movie from Vudu and am hoping the video quality is really good.

It has been two years since this press release, and yet Vudu still refuses to support Sony 4K UHD devices, claiming Sony does not have strong enough security for UHD. I find that highly unlikely, as you will find Vudu UHD support on Vizio, Hisense, TCL, and other "bargain" brands, but not on a much higher end brand as Sony. When you contact Vudu, they blame Sony. When you contact Sony, they blame Vudu.

I love it when companies point fingers at each other, leaving the customer in the middle.
