    hi all -

my girlfriend has one of those small dogs...a shiz-tzu (sp).

it's a really really great dog and i really like having him around. unfortunately, he's kinda old (14 years), completely blind, mostly deaf, and balding! but, he's got the world's greatest temperment and can still (mostly) find his way out the doggie door into the backyard to do his biz.

thing is, he's going poop in the rocks. that doesn't bother me - i prefer that to him going in the grass. but i'm having a hard time getting the smaller "nuggets" out of the rock bed.

so, i was wondering if there was a way to "break down" the nuggets? some kind of chemical i can pour over the rocks? i tried spraying the poop with a jet stream, but that was kinda ineffective.

    anyway, all ideas welcome!

    thx,

    ted

my dog used to poop in the rocks near my back door... fortunetly he's a yellow lab so its not hard. Get out the old plastic bag and go nuts. Thats my only idea.

I dont know if you'd be interested in trying bleach. that will break it up.... at least it did with my dog..

oh man im no help here.

Instead of trying to figure out how to clean it up, why not figure out how to deter it?

Isn't there some kind of spray you can spray the area with so the dog won't go near it? They usually sell that kind of stuff to spray on your trashbags so animals don't go rummaging through them.

    Maybe that'll help?

Good old fashioned water from a hose works for me when my dogs do it.

Infest your yard with dung beetles. That should do the trick. It'd also be a funny sght seeing the beetles rolling little balls of dog poop around.

Yes, I was going to suggest the water hose treatment too. A friend of mine used to hit his back yard daily while the poop was still fresh and the water broke it down pretty easily.Sounds like your dog has determined the rocky are his territory.
