Because after Smallville (the only show I watch on the WB currently), they always have an ad for the songs used in the show and then point your to the warner bros. online store where you can buy it. I can't really say any musical choice has been out of place, but wouldn't that be product placement to an unneccassary extreme?

Yeah, WB has been doing that for a few years now. I think it really was over-the-top on this week's "Smallville"; there was one point where three different songs were used within five minutes.

It's mostly on the WB-produced shows - especially "Charmed", where they will occasionally name-drop - but I've noticed UPN hawking records after "Roswell", and not just the show's soundtrack.
