Does anyone know if the Toshiba 50hdx82 allows you to use different viewing options when the TV is receiving a 480p video signal or does the television lock into FULL mode?

Toshiba sets have not locked into full mode for at least 4 years now.

I think they lock into full mode when you have 1080i signal though

Not anymore! The H82s and HDX82s do indeed allow you to apply the TheaterWide1/2/3 modes to DVD *and* HDTV inputs. The exception is 720p input which does lock into full (even though it's converted to 1080i by the TV...odd?!).
