Spoke with a rep from PLUS Corp. They have several models of Front DLP Projectors. They range from 400 to 2200 ANSI Lumens.
The rep said that 800 ANSI is all I need. Anything else for a home theater is way overkill and that I would be dimming the brightness down.

Any truth or experience in this area would be appreciated.

Thanks!

In a true home theater environment with complete control over lighting 800lumens should work well enough. Keep in mind that most front CRT projectors are around 400-600 lumens if I recall correctly. It seems that most of the popular lcd and dlp projectors are in the 1200-2000 lumen range. It really will depend heavily on the environment its going into.
