Does DVL 90 Play VCD (1 Viewer)

Title says it all. Does the Elite DVL 90 from Pioneer play VCDs?

I just had my son pop a VCD into our DVL-91 and sure enough, it plays. Damn, that thing plays anything .

I believe the original DVD standard for players required that they be able to play VCD's as well as music CD's. In that case, your DVL-90 should play VCD's since it plays DVD's.

I've got a good one. John are you sure it played a VCD? Just got a reply from Pioneer's online help and, well... here it is:

"The only major difference is DVL-90 is a first generation DVD laser disc player

manufactured in 1996, and DVL-91 was manufactured in 1998, and neither one will

play VCDs..."

what gives?

He burned (Iomega zip) JP3 onto a cd and it played on the DVL-91. I'm not into this type of thing (burning) but it obviously works for us. Yours, or their (Pioneer) mileage may vary.

The 909 plays VCDs, the 700 doesn't though.
