Sorry if this is a stupid question, but does DVD-Audio exist anymore? The only new discs I have seen are not really DVD-Audio discs at all.

For example, the new Backstreet Boys album and the new Jennifer Lopez album. Both come in a "DualDisc" which has the CD on one side and the DVD on the other side, but neither DVD has the "Advanced Resolution" audio track that DVD-Audio used to have on it.

Did they just stop making DVD-Audio discs altogether or am I just not looking hard enough?

For Dualdisc, hi-rez content is label-dependent. Case in point: the new NIN "With Teeth" Dualdisc DOES contain a hi-rez mix. It's mostly the Sony-owned labels who are foregoing hi-rez...

There are a handful of standalone DVD-A releases nowadays. Beck's recent "Guero" was released in a special edition that contained both the CD and DVD-A - same with the REM dualpack rereleases...

3 Doors down Dual disc is also dvd-a as well as Diana Krall's "The Girl In the other room" and the new Foo Fighters disc. There are others too, you just have to look around.

This issue has been so thoroughly vetted/flogged in the Music area, I question the need for a new thread on the topic.

DVD-A releases, which were arguably never a tidal wave, have largely ceased from the majors, somewhat due to their spotty shift to Dual releases.

Previous releases are available from a variety of e-tailers, some even having been re-released as CD/DVD-A "Double Disc" packages (e.g., some Seal and R.E.M. titles).

Just yesterday UMG announced support of Blu-ray.

The sands are shifting regarding the future of hi rez music, but we just don't know what the desert will look like when the winds stop.

The Dire Straits' "Brothers in Arms" just came out yesterday in a DualDisc format whose DVD side contains a DVD-Audio version.

Sounds beautiful; so slick you slide off the couch listening to it (not so sure this album has aged that well).
