You know, you're describing a problem I have. With a LOT of DVDs I have, by the time an audio stream leaves the DVD player, gets noticed by the receiver, gets identified as a Dolby Digital stream, gets identified as a 5.1 stream, and triggers the amps/circuitry to output correctly to the speakers, 3-5 seconds have passed in silence. It bugs me. (Mine's a Sony non-ES receiver.)
How about a little "leader" in front of your titles, please, DVD authors??
It's more like 0.5 to 1.5 seconds for me ever since I started using an HK 310 receiver as preamp instead of my old Yamaha 2095. I haven't tried Dumbo, but I doubt it's disc specific in my case.
the same crap happens on some movies during the layer change.... very annoying..
