You may still want to be concerned about the picture quality of the newer releases. From the review that Michael linked to in his post...


From what I've read (no firsthand knowledge) even the Blu-ray release is subpar with respect to picture quality.

This looked rough in the theaters though. Is it a case of just being a gritty looking film? I never listened to the commentary.

It is a gritty-looking film. The problem with the Blu-ray is that it doesn't look gritty at all.
