Does anyone know how to get a still image file from an .avi?

    I'm looking to get a still image file (.jpg, .bmp, .gif) from an AVI file. Anyone know how to do this?

    the simple down and dirty is pause the movie where you want, screen cap it with alt> plus prnt screen>
    then go into photoshop or MS paint and edit/paste the cap to a new image.

    Where would that screen cap file be after I alt+prnt screen?

    it's copied to the windows clipboard, you need to paste it into a new image in some sort of photo editing software

    also when to alt prntscrn make sure the avi player window is "active" it'll cap the whole player, a little cropping and you're good to go

    whats the difference between print screen and alt-print screen? perhaps alt-print screen only captures the active window? i know print screen captures the whole screen. hmm, off to try it.
