My friend is wanting the KEF THX5.1 speakers system. What do you think of it and how much does it cost? That is all he told me about it if you need more info let me know.

David:

I have demo'ed this system in my home at length and I think it is fabulous. Very accurate and detailed, images very well. Easily the best looking system on the market, as well, and the sound vanquishes any thoughts of a Bose system. Only problem is that I have a very large room to fill and the 4" Uni-Q driver of the satellites is simply not big enough to push enough air in my room (20 x 14 x 18, not counting the open adjoining kitchen). If I had the normal 8.5' ceilings instead of 18', they might work with a good amp.

I will suggest however, that they do need a surprising amount of power to get the most out of them, given their small size. Don't get me wrong, they sound good with almost anything, but a normal 75 wpc receiver, such as the small Onkyo or Yamaha receivers, simply do not have the real power necessary to drive them to HT sounds. However, the NAD 742 (50 wpc) sounded superb! And a good h/k (say the 325) should also sound very, very good with this system.(NAD and h/k are the only real high current receivers on the market, so their watts are worth twice the usual Japanese receiver's power rating).

Tell your friend, "Good choice!"

David:

I have tried to respond to you twice using both the reply button on my Outlook toolbar and using the mail link you provided, but my mail has been returned both times as "undeliverable." Sorry. I have been trying to respond to your question.
