I watched a lot of Tom Baker Doctor Who episodes on PBS as a child, and I'd like to take a trip down memory lane. Does anyone have a recommendation for their favorite Doctor Who DVD that's currently available? You don't need to limit suggestions to DVDs with Tom Baker as the Doctor, by the way. Thanks!

IMO one that is a must is 'Doctor Who - Five Doctors'

Not only do you get Tom Baker but the other 4 top Doctors in the series!!!

Run out and grab the "Key to Time" box set. Tom Baker. K-9 and Romana. One of the best Doctors, and two of his best companions, IMHO.

I second that - definitely enjoyed all the Baker/Ramana/K-9 episodes.

Any of the discs currently out in region 1 are worth a viewing in my opinion. Although Tom Baker is the best represented in those discs ... the Sylvester McCoy one "Remembrance of the Daleks" is a good one if only for the "linking" with the original Doctor in the storyline.

Not to be nitpicky, but I think he is only in this story for a brief minute or two if I recall. [IMG]

David, I agree with your assenment of the video quality, average at best. I did a quick survey of my Doctors, and remebered the Sylvester McCoy one as well, Remembrance of the Daleks quite a nice episode, with nice homages(sp) to the very first episode, and to date the only McCoy episode I have seen.

Ark in Space was a delight to see when it was released.

Must disagree in part on the Key to Time box. Although the first 2 volumes did have 'average' video, I thought The Stones of Blood looked very, very good on my Toshiba 50H81.
I also agree that the extras are noticeably less on the Key to Time series; however, the commentary tracks are delightful! Mary Tamm especially seems a very warm and humourous person.
I'd buy this set again in a heartbeat!

The unfinished story was called Shada , available on VHS in fragmentary form.
Yes, Hartnell had died before the making of The Five Doctors. Indeed, he was already quite ill when he appeard in The Three Doctors.

The Key To Time series is good stuff but anyone who wants to start with a single disc should check out ROBOTS OF DEATH. It's one of the best baker stories ever.

Local Best Buy has a single copy of about 5-6 of the DVD's - a pretty good selection. All around $19.95
