For $24.8K my R was faster than a WRX (with me driving).
extra $6K and for $30,000 you are looking at a car which is going to be running with brand new vettes and other speed kings.Unfortunately, this is true. STOCK the WRX does not cut it, and it certainly does not live up to it's reputation. It NEEDS suspension, brakes, tires for sure, and some engine tuning (must get rid of the lag) to make it a suitable car for my tastes. I agree that the WRX has a darn good motor in it, LOTS of potential there. I'll see how it does when the STi comes to town, THEN I'll consider one, but the current one is not to my liking and I don't want to start with a car that I KNOW is not to my liking, I'd rather start with something I feel is up to the task in the first place.
BTW, Subaru is the only manufacturer that I have seen so far that explicitly states that if you modify your car, they will void any portion of your warranty related to the modification, EVEN if they install the parts for you and they are factory (STi) parts.
