I have a Panasonic SA-HE200 with a pair of JBL S312 as fronts and 3 small sony speakers as my center and rears, my room is about 20 x 20 feet. When I put in a DVD the bass is strong. When I listen to music I have to turn down the bass on my receiver because there is to much. if I get good bass response now is adding a sub a waste or am I missing anything by not having a sub? Also if I do add a sub with the bass over power the mid's and highs, were all you hear is bass? any suggestions will be appreciated. thanks

From the JBL website:
S312 Frequency Response (–3dB): 35Hz – 20kHz

Looks like those speakers are quite capable of giving you the low end frequencies
