Do I need a better 480p DVD player? (1 Viewer)

I currently have the Toshiba SD4900 DVD player. What i've noticed is that my Samsung HCN5527W TV has a better progressive scan then my DVD player, so i leave the DVD at 480i. But, in darker scenes, the DVD's 480p picture is smoother and removes most of the artifacts, but again the picture itself loses sharpness. Will a better DVD player improve this? If so, any recommendations?

Sure you can always do better, especially with all the Faroudja DCDi models available now. Take a look at the new Denons and see which fits your needs & budget.

The Toshiba models have a poor de-interlacer, look for a model with the top-rated Faroudja de-interlacer like the Mitsubishi DD-8040 or Denon DVD-1600 or DVD-910.
