In y'alls opinion, how does the DLP Rear Projection HDTVs hold up against similar sized Plasma, CRT Rear Projection HDTVs, LCD Rear Projection HDTVs, and the like?

Ive experienced them all them all and still think that crt produces the best image to date DLP, LCD and LCOS are not far behind though and when they can start producing deep blacks instead of dark grays they will be the way to go. I just hope I can hold off on the upgrade bug till then.

If I was replacing my RPTV, I would wait for the next generation of LCOS. Sony's SXRD looks great on paper, but we'll have to see how it performs in the real world. It looks promising though.

On other forums, a lot of people complain about a "clay face" effect with DLP sets. I'm not sure what that really means or how prevelent it is. Then there's the rainbows, those stinkin' rainbows!

I have only just started seeing the "Clay Face" on the Samsung units at the local Best Buy. I've been looking at these units for about a year and only found 1 that seems to produce the "Clay Face" issue.

They have it right next to a Sony LCD unit for about $400 cheaper and I have to say I'm impressed with the Sony features (number of inputs, remote).

But there is concern that the LCD units will dim, go yellow and that bright-whites will shift to blue or grey in the first few months.

So I still feel the Samsung DLP has the technical edge. In case you are worried about getting a problem unit like Leo, buy from a local dealer who has a generous return policy.
