I am considering taking the DIY plunge and am considering two options:

    1) Two EBS Shivas to be used as stands for my mains.

    2) Single EBS Tempest placed in a corner.

I have an oddly shaped 4300 ft^3 room with vaulted cielings that is open to the kitchen, and I am somewhat concerned about the two sub option complicating my room response. There seem to be many conflicting opinions regarding apropriate placement of multiple subs. I would apreciate any words of wisdom regarding the use of dual subs as stands. I realize that the Tempest option would be less expensive.

    Thanks.

That's a big room. Can you accommodate a single tube big enough to use 2 Tempests?

    TomHa-
Eric Jones uses 2 subs as stands. one's a Shiva, the other's an older SVS driver. Check it out:

He might be able to give you some pointers, although his room is not as large as yours. He's a freaking woodworking wizard.
