I was over at diyaudio.com and i noticed this link
http://www.lumenlab.com
so i went ahead and clicked it and it looks pretty amazing IMO. I dont think I have ever even considered that you could diy a projector but looking at this site and also by looking at this gallery of people who have aparently successfully built their own projector
http://www.lumenlab.com/forums/index.php?showforum=3
I am becoming pretty intrigued to say the least.

Has anyone where tried this? Anybody else even curious about somthing like this?

It's interesting, but I do not see the point in making one, it is not worth it. Their lumenlab simple 15" projector is 12"x28"x15", that is huge, plus not attractive at all based on the pictures in the forums. Sure, they say you can build one $100-$500. For most, I would guess it is $500 and up because not many will have parts laying around. I did not see many posts listing total cost, I did see one at $600+ and another at $700. You will have to build this from beginning to end so you better be handy and patient. I'm not sure how much you save when done. It does look like a very nice and elaborate science project. If you like to spend your time tickering with it, then it may be the ticket.

Well that is kinda why I think it would be interesting. I do like building things myself and tinkering with them. I think I am actually going to go ahead and get the manual and just see what it is all about. If anything at least I should come out of it with a better understanding of how projectors work and I am willing to $19 on the line for a chance to learn some good information.
