I found that the remastered CD is better than the original version, but I never did notice the drummer sounding muffled or in the back, so to speak.

Not to keep reviving a dead thread, but just wanted to post one last update.
Picked up a still sealed copy of BOOH and did not notice distortion in the area you mentioned...but, later I did notice something not right right with The "Stop right there!" after Phil. I think someone else noticed it as well on the CD...I think she pegged the needle on that one, wrapped it right around the stop!
So ends the Paradise by the Dashboard Light thing!
It was fun.
Manny, I didn't expect this thread to come back. Thanks for the info. I haven't listened to any of my Bat Out of Hell CDs in awhile, but something might have gone wrong in the recording, the mastering, or the handling of the original tape. Hmmm....
